Heads up!!! Foxtails can be dangerous or even deadly for pets and grow in abundance throughout Southern California. Foxtail season has begun and so has the danger to your pets. They have sharp barbed heads allowing them to continuously burrow into virtually any part of your pet’s body—including ears, eyes, nose, mouth and between toes—causing discomfort, swelling and infection. For your pet’s safety, keep them out of overgrown grassy areas and pull any foxtails in your yard. If you notice any areas of swelling or redness, excessive sneezing, or shaking of the head, call your vet to schedule an appointment. If foxtails are in your yard, here is how to get rid of them: gardeningknowhow/plant-problems/weeds/controlling-foxtail-weeds.htm -Dr. Brian Peterson, Friars Road Pet Hospital
