Heads up! Today, at the Rocklin Campus, facilities received a report of a mountain lion sighting in our Nature Trail area. Officers patrolled the area and were unable to confirm the sighting, however we felt this might be a good opportunity to remind you all that the area is in fact a Nature Trail, and therefore inhabited by (sometimes dangerous) wildlife. We would like all staff and students to exercise extreme caution when using the trail and consider staying off the trail in the evening or early morning hours. Below you will find information on what to do if you see a mountain lion based on information from the CA Department of Fish & Game. If you have additional information regarding mountain lions or other dangerous wildlife sightings on our campus, please contact the Sierra College Security Office at (916) 660-7120. What to do when you see a Mountain Lion: -Remain Calm! -Do not run! Running may stimulate an animal’s instinct to attack. -If possible back away slowly. -Make eye contact and do all you can to appear larger. Wave your arms slowly and speak in a large/loud voice. -Throw stones or branches if you can reach them without bending down. -Fight back if you are attacked and try to remain standing. -Do not approach the animal/s.
