Heady weekend with the first course, Clinical Companion to FixYourOwnBack:Assessment and Exercise Interventions for the Flexion Intolerant and Disc Injured Spine. In addition to a sentiment from some that the name of the course needs to be shorter, this very kind review was provided by Michael Lell in another forum. Jeff Beran and Jacob D. Perkins, looking forward to coming to Phoenix and Seattle! Per request, my review of Dr. P. Snells weekend seminar The seminar started with an ample amount of scholarly knowledge and clinical citations which I greatly appreciated. This gave a background and afforded an appreciation for the premise of the seminar - that the direct and indirect costs of discogenic LBP are comparable to the other public-health heavy hitters such heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, and should be treated as such. In parallel with the other prevalent public health conditions, there needs to be a screening mechanism and self-help option/initiative available to those at risk. The self help comes in the form of his web-site, Fixyourownback. Although he does profit from this website, by no means was this seminar a sales pitch and I truly believe he created this site - not to secure passive income - but to address a greater public need. He led the class through an evaluation for a patient with non-specific low back pain (a term hell teach you to hate) and then how to tease out and assess the finer points and causes of pain. From there, he brought us through the clinical progression of management, as outlined on his website, with an emphasis on trouble shooting and differentiating. I walked away from this two day seminar with new perspectives on LBP, knowledge I can apply in clinic tomorrow, and more importantly - an aspiration and enthusiasm to learn more. After being so badly burned on the first seminar I ever signed up for from the Council of Chiropractic Extremity Adjusting, I was very cautious and cynical about seminars. I actually debated on whether to sign up for this one for four days before deciding to take the risk. This seminar is fantastic and Snell delivered much more than I paid for. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in improving your LBP skills and I will be signing up for every other Phillip Snell seminar that I am able to. fixyourownback/public/The-Clinical-Companion-to-FixYourOwnBackcomAssessment-and-Exercise-Interventions-for-the-Flexion-Intolerant-and-DiscInjured-Low-Back.cfm
