Healing Satsang by Swami Amar Jyoti THIS SATSANG IS DEDICATED TO THE PEOPLE OF COLORADO, WITH PRAYERS FOR PEACE AND HEALING AFTER THE FLOODS AND LOSS OF LOVED ONES Flowing in rhythm means that your body, mind and spirit are not three separate things. They are very interconnected, one with the other. If healing appears to come from outside you, it is only because you have also joined your own inner power of healing with it. THERE ARE THREE KINDS OF SUFFERING OR DISEASE: physical, mental and spiritual. Tapas is the Sanskrit word for fever. On the physical level tapas is disease, bodily fever. On the mental level it is mental fever, that is: anxiety, depression and insanity. And on the spiritual level tapas is ignorance itself. You see ignorance the least, although it is your deepest, most pervading affliction. Only from the first and foremost disease do the other afflictions crop up. Agitation, tension, anger and greed go on breeding due to your unconsciousness. They are born from the undiving mother: ignorance or avidya maya. From these, mental afflictions are born and, in turn, a host of physical diseases. Normally you try to cure disease by starting with the physical, then mental afflictions, and only after that you might take up ignorance itself. This does not work, for it is going at it the wrong way. If you do not change your mind, diseases will crop up even if you go on taking pills. It is a recurring process; you cut the plant only to have it continue sprouting from its roots. Unless you change your mind, disease will persist in one way or the other. Likewise, when you seek to cure mental afflictions, you find that whatever you try to do on this level soon becomes stuck. The lasting answer is found in the ancient scriptures: your mental fever persists because its real root is the disease of ignorance and unconsciousness. This is the root sin, but you do not see that in your unconscious living - in your waking, working and sleeping, in your eating and procreating. Unconsciousness is such that you generally do not see it; that is why it is called maya or illusion. You are so habituated to it - it is so much in the fabric of your nature - that you are blind to it. Every time you want to cure yourself you run to outer agents. Herbs and medicines may be created by God, no doubt, but they cannot cure you without your cooperation with nature and your own Spirit. When you come in rhythmic tune with yourself, then herbs immediately affect you and work wonders. The same thing applies to spiritual healing. Relax, meditate, give yourself up to God and everything will be all right. This will heal your ignorance and remove your unconsciousness.
