Health Summit public meeting in Grand Falls-Windsor Nov. 26 Providing high-quality and accessible primary health care for the residents of Newfoundland and Labrador is a key priority of the provincial government. Recognizing this, and in keeping with the commitment made by the Premier Paul Davis, the Premier’s Summit on Health Care will be held January 14, 2015 in St. John’s. To gather ideas and generate input to help shape the agenda for the summit, four public regional forums will take place beginning later this month. In addition, in advance of the summit the general public is invited to provide feedback electronically, by phone or by regular mail. “The time has come for a holistic review of how primary health care in this province is delivered. Through four regional forums, residents will have the opportunity to talk to us about the issues that matter most to them in areas such as mental health and addictions, dementia care, chronic disease management, healthy living and aging. Their feedback will shape the agenda for the Premier’s Summit on Health Care which will bring together key stakeholders and residents to help shape our future policy decisions, said the Honourable Paul Davis, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador. In the lead up to the summit, a public forum will be held in each of the four regional health authority areas to provide an opportunity for residents to share their thoughts and experiences. In addition, a discussion guide is under development and will be available from the department prior to the forums. The meeting in Grand Falls-Windsor will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion on Queen Street Wednesday, Nov. 26 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. While the forums this fall are open to the general public, residents who are interested in being invited to participate in the summit in January are asked to contact the department to be considered as delegates for the event. “It is important to listen to residents across this province to get a sense of what key areas of our primary health care system need review and attention. We invite the general public to come and join us at a forum in their region, visit our website or call the department to share their ideas about how we can improve primary health care. Together we can gain a better understanding of what works well and what needs to change to improve the health of all residents, said the Hon. Steve Kent, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Community Services.
