Health Update - # 23 – August 15, 2014 The Lord is my Strength and my [impenetrable] Shield; my heart trusts in, relies on, and confidently leans on Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song will I praise Him. – Psalm 28:7 Hello Everyone, My oncology team is surmising that the combination of dehydration and low magnesium levels are what may be contributing to my lethargy. So, today was my second day of hydration mixed with magnesium and I will be having one more tomorrow. I hope you do not mind, but I have four prayer requests pertaining to next week and would really appreciate your assistance with each of them. Thanks so much for your support as prayer warriors. Prayer Request # 1 – Wisdom with proceeding onto round # 6 of chemotherapy My oncology team is debating whether or not I will proceed forward with the final round of chemotherapy. As you can imagine I have mixed feelings about it. There is something to be said for having the maximum dosage to eradicate the cancer, yet in some regards they are not certain if the side effects are worth the risks of the final dosage. In their opinion, I have gone through a lot physically. As a precaution, I am having a second echo cardiogram on Monday to insure my heart is still functioning fine as well as another blood test to check my numbers. The remainder of the week will be spent continuing to monitor me. At this point, I am scheduled for my final session to begin on Tuesday, August 26 unless something changes. Prayer Request # 2 – Insurance covering the cost of removing my teeth and replacing them plus wisdom for the treatment plan in replacing my teeth As you know I had 6 teeth removed in addition to my lower jaw on the right side of my face. Insurance does not want to cover the cost for the removal of the teeth or replacing them. They are saying that the procedures are not medically necessary. I will be meeting with the maxillofacial surgeon who will be developing a plan for replacing my teeth on my lower right jaw. Prayer Request # 3 – Choosing the correct radiation oncologist and treatment plan There will be an initial consultation with a radiation oncologist. Truthfully, I feel very apprehensive and anxious about this next step of my treatment plan. There is the potential for so many side-effects both short and long term. Prayer Request # 4 – My mouth sore I have one mouth sore which I first noticed 7 pm on Wednesday night. It is located behind my Adam’s apple and each time I swallow it hurts.
