Health Update - # 33 – October 20, 2014 Psalm 118:24 – “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Hello Friends, I am so excited! Today starts the final week of radiation therapy which encompasses 5 final treatments! Yes, I am ready for this journey of cancer to be done! So I am putting on my game face and getting mentally prepared. I know this is going to be a tough week, but with the right preparation and strategies I will get through it! What are some recent changes? More frequently now are: taking of pain medications, skin cream applications, facial exercises, and smoothies (with an occasional syringe). My skin has begun to get bright red in some areas and tan in others. It is truly amazing that the inside of my mouth and lower lip can have burns, yet at the start of week 6 not one burn on the outside. The expectation was that my skin should be raw! We even had discussions on what would happen when the radiation mask was too tight or sore to wear. It does not look like that will be a concern at all! The medical team is still very impressed with the condition of my skin. They prepared me with the news that radiation is the gift that keeps on giving. Although treatments stop this Friday, I can expect side effects to surface through Wednesday of next week. Thankfully swallowing has not been an issue so far, so more than likely that side effect will not surface at this point. When it comes to answering prayers according to God’s will He may say “yes”, “no”, or “wait”. When it came to getting me through radiation therapy, I am so happy that He chose to say “yes” to so many of our requests. We have prayed for the symptoms to be manageable plus skin to be protected and they are! So far my saliva level seems pretty good which in turn helps preserve my teeth and helps me to eat easily. Also, my facial and neck muscles seem to be staying loose which are a blessing as well! I am just in shock and awe how the start of this week looks nothing like the picture I was painted so many months ago. Thank you Jesus and thank you everyone! We will be in touch! Take care, Sheryl
