Healthy Single-Serving Snacks Whether to satisfy the late-night - TopicsExpress

Healthy Single-Serving Snacks Whether to satisfy the late-night munchies or to provide sustenance on the go, healthy single-serving snacks can appease your cravings while providing nutritional benefits. Many individual 100-calorie snack packets are available in grocery stores, but the cookies, crackers and other treats are not necessarily any better for you than the original version of the food; the appeal is in the portion-controlled container. Fruit and Dairy The combination of fruit and dairy provides a healthy source of complex carbohydrates, calcium and protein. Mix a pre-packaged fruit cup, with fruit in natural juices, with 1/4 cup of low-fat cottage cheese for a quick and easy 100-calorie snack. For an even simpler single-serving snack, a 6-ounce light yogurt made with non-nutritive sweetener topped with 2 tablespoons of blueberries or raspberries will also satisfy your hunger for only around 100 calories. Crunchy Snacks When you crave something crunchy and want to avoid the pitfalls of potato chips or other high-fat snacks, choose popcorn, either air-popped or a fat-free microwave version. Some microwave popcorn even comes in individual 100-calorie packs for convenience. If you choose to air-pop your own, a single-serving for around 100-calories is about 3 cups popped. You can jazz up the flavor by sprinkling on garlic powder and black pepper. Or try spritzing with cooking spray and sprinkling on 2 tablespoons of freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
