Hear and Understand Scripture And all the people went their way to eat and drink and to send portions and to make great rejoicing, because they had understood the words that were declared to them. Neh 8:12 Observation Some of the people of Israel had returned home from exile in Babylon and rebuilt the city of Jerusalem. Here the books of Moses (the first five books of the Old Testament, called the Torah by the Jews) were read aloud for the first time in many generations, and the people were happy because they had been starving for Gods Word. Application I am starving for Gods Word (the Bible) also and desire to find the same level of excitement, as these exiles returned, as I explore it. I need Gods word to be on my mind and evident in my life in such a way as to leave no room for sin. I need to feast on it each day so that there is no room for alternative sinful nourishment. Prayer Dear God, help me, as I read your Word, to be diligent and open to your guidance. Help me to hear and understand.
