Hear from inner west local mums Faith and Emma about an eco - TopicsExpress

Hear from inner west local mums Faith and Emma about an eco enterprise, Reuse It Baby Market, a market Emma started and Faith now runs, that specializes in second hand and recycled gear for mums and bubs at the ‘Homegrown Social and Eco Entrepreneurs seminar and workshop’. Learn about Emma’s personal motivation for starting up the market in 2009, how Faith has moved the market to the Substation at Newport and developed the concept to include a community sausage sizzle and more since she took over the reins in 2011, and what they have both learned about running this kind of enterprise. They will be one of four presentations by locals at the Homegrown Social and Eco Entrepreneurs seminar and workshop where Transition Hobsons Bay and Hobsons Bay City Council want to bring entrepreneurs, investors, and other change makers into the same room to learn from each other, form new relationships and to begin working together on new enterprises for our community. What kind of enterprises? Social, sustainable, regenerative, resilient – new businesses that create meaningful livelihoods and contribute to the community in positive ways. The morning seminar session will showcase Faith and Emma and two other local eco entrepreneurs as well as a local social enterprise. This will be followed by a Q&A session: Christian Groves will talk about the challenges he has faced with his backyard project, the ValveCosy - a device that helps hot water systems stay warm and save energy. Christian will share what he has learned with his eco enterprise, from the design stage through to manufacturing on shore in Australia and marketing & sales. Gavin Mountjoy will present an overview of Westgate Community Wind, which proposed the installation of Melbourne’s first community-owned wind turbine installed on the north side of the Westgate Bridge, using the Bendigo Bank Community Enterprise™ model. Faith Symons and Emma McGregor from Reuse It Baby Market will share Emma’s personal motivation for starting up the market in 2009, how Faith has developed the concept since she took over the reins in 2011 and what they have learned about running this kind of environmental enterprise. The final presentation will showcase a local social enterprise. Social enterprises operate like a revenue generating business, produce goods and services for the market while managing their operations in pursuit of social and environmental goals. The Q&A session with all presenters will follow this presentation. After lunch the afternoon session will comprise a facilitated workshop where the potential for more locals to progress their social or environmental enterprise ideas will be explored together with those interested in supporting such initiatives.
