Heard and read all about our Aussie Pride yesterday, in yet another self satisfying, self gratification exercise we call Australia Day. The idea that we encourage patriotism and pride (to me) is a very ugly concept indeed. What is it that makes us better than any other due to our birth location or accidental nationality? Pride is a thing of negative personality trait. Why can we not be humble and thankful instead of proud? What are you so proud of? The fact that your parents just happened to be born in a different place to another people? What did you do to make a difference in the Nation or in fact the world? How have you earned that pride, or did it just fall in your lap when through no fault or effort of your own you were born in this country? Patriotism/racism is an ugly thing and nothing to be Proud of Pride is a self gratifying emotion for those who have little to claim as their own efforts. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pride
