Hearing some more about the Ray Rice situation on SportsCenter this morning and one thing is really disturbing. That is that Greg Hardy of the Carolina Panthers is still playing while Ray has been suspended indefinitely and may never play professional football again. Now we all know Rays story and most of us have seen the video. But hes admitted he was wrong and voluntarily entered a program to get help. Plus he and his then fiancee have now gotten married. Yet he may be banned from the NFL for life? For those who havent heard the Hardy story its much more disturbing. The allegations are that he got very angry because his girlfriend had previously dated the rapper Nelly. He got so mad that he threw her on the tile floor in his bathroom, threw her onto a bed covered in assault rifles (thanks media!) and tried to choke her and told her he was going to kill her. Her statement to the police said she genuinely thought she was going to die. He was convicted on TWO counts of domestic violence. Yet hes still playing and has not been released by the Panthers. The reason? Hes appealed his conviction and is waiting for the legal system to play itself out. So whats the difference in these two cases? One was caught on video and one wasnt, even though all the other evidence seems to indicate the Hardy incident was much more horrific. And the NFL wonders why it has an image problem when it comes to domestic violence.
