Hearing the Voice of the Lord Today 1 Hearing the voice of the Lord and walking in daily communion with Him is not an experience confined to past ancient times or for the future. The Lord wants us to experience and enjoy personal communion with Him today, now, in the present. In whatever situation you are in now, the Lord wants you to hear His voice instructing you, comforting you, empowering you and He wants you to follow Him as He leads you in the triumph, comfort, and joy of His presence. The Lord speaks to us today and wants us to hear His voice today. He has made His people sensitive and yielding to His voice. Communication between the Lord and His people is a present active experience. One Scripture passage insists, “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” The phrase, if you hear His voice, actually means if you are willing to hear the voice of the Lord. There are some people who belong to religious groups, including Christian religious groups, whose members are either unwilling or are not encouraged or allowed by the leadership to seek the Lord directly and personally for His guidance. They must depend completely on the leadership who generally claims exclusive right to knowledge and revelation from the Lord. This misguided religious practice is not of the Lord and easily results in the blind leading the blind. It fosters unnecessary trust and reliance on man instead of on the Lord. It promotes and imposes the traditions and rules of man. As a result, it cheats the people of God of the freshness of spiritual life that comes through a personal and active relationship with Jesus Christ. Psalms 95:7-8: For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand. Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts. John 10:27: “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”
