Heart goes out to everyone affected by the sheer insanity that occurred at Ft Hood last night.. I wont speak my opinion on why, or how come.. I simply know its a tragedy, more so because this act was committed by a fellow soldier, brother, the guy whos supposed to have your back when in the face of the enemy.. No brother in arms should ever become one himself. This isnt the first time, and may not be the last, where something similar has happened; I just hope the realization comes that Soldiers should be allowed to defend themselves in situations like this. Im not going to feed into all the conspiracy theories and the like, but its a fact; these incidents happen mostly where its a gun free zone.. You place laws restricting law abiding citizens/trained members of our armed forces abilities to defend themselves or other innocents in situations like this, but it does nothing to prevent lawless, non-abiding people from illegally carrying a weapon into an area like this and causing untold pain, death, and tragedy. It breaks my heart knowing that some of these Soldiers who have served their country, probably been deployed and come out of it more or less unscathed, have become victims of something so terrible and unnecessary. We train to fight our enemies; many times, we have no idea who they are, they look just like everyone else. We never expect those wearing the same uniform as us to plot, move and raise arms against us. It hurts deep in that special place where my pride in my country and in my service resides. I cant imagine how those closest or directly affected must feel.. I know I speak for any person wearing a uniform that hasnt done so already; but our hearts and prayers go out to all affected, and that we are all brothers and sisters. We share the tragedy, and we are here for all those that share the brand.
