Heart refrains As a nation we came of age Though many trials we feared Through obstacles and tests And many burdens beared To make our mark on the world And stand up on our feet To wear the victor’s crown And not stand in defeat No more to union jack Allegiance would we pledge But the red white and black Would in our heart be hedged Mother India and mother Africa Submerged to Tobago and Trinidad The pride of our nation The zeal that makes us glad No more lead by the queen Or bowed down to her throne Independent as our own nation Blessed is the child that has it’s own And as la trinity we live up to our name One nation under God Trinbago’s heart refrains .
