Heartbroken to report that Huey aka Baby Bear died today. 7 days ago I wouldve told you he was in perfect health except for a touch of arthritis. Pretty normal for an 11 year old yellow lab/chow mix. On Sunday he missed jumping up onto the couch and felt a little swollen around his abdomen. He was in liver failure due to to a cancer than we never knew he had. After a last-ditch effort yesterday to relieve his pain didnt work, we did the only thing we could. He died in my arms today at the vets office with his Mommy at his side with me. We shared an ice cream cone (the only thing hed eat today) and I rented a Jeep Wrangler for him to ride in one last time. He used to love riding in mine. After settling in and remembering how to lean out the side of the back seat, he did just that. Through all the pain, he actually managed to have a good time. Through all the tears, I actually managed to drive. The date/time stamp on old photos told me that I took the very first photo of him on August 15th 2003. 11 years later to the day I took the last photo of him riding in the sunshine. Goodbye buddy. Well miss you. Wherever they go, and whatever happens to them on the way, in that enchanted place on the top of the forest a little boy and his bear will always be playing. -- A. A. Milne
