Hearty Christmas wishes to all my facebook friends, family and foes! May Christmas bring you great cheer, restorative rest, deep love and reunion with your own families near and far. Christmas is a time for rest, love and family reunion. In my family, at Christmas we always descend upon our rural-home from wherever else we may be. Those of us with children return home with all our young ones and their maids. Those of us without children, also return home - usually loaded with goodies, foodstuff, gifts and decorations for the Christmas tree. We reconnect and bond. The kitchen has been abuzz with activity for food preparation. Chickens have been slaughtered. Beef has been diced. Sausages are defrosting. Rice is being sorted. Matooke was peeled by the clusters. Sweet potatoes, cassava, yams and pumpkins have all been peeled and tied up in fresh banana leaves - ready for steaming over an open fireplace in the morning. Firewood was chopped and heaped ready for cooking. The cake was baked and iced. Drinks are chilling in the fridge. And Barakas fruit-basket sits abundantly in the sitting-room. The feast is ready to begin!
