Heaven is for real! At least it is in my tiny world. I viewed an episode of “Cosmos” last week and saw some proof. I see the spring has returned, and I see some proof with bluebonnets and Mountain Laurels and all the color that makes this Texas heart sing. My mailbox holds an unexpected check from a source I had forgotten, and I see proof. I see old friends in Arkansas and new friends in Dallas, and I see proof of heaven and earth with all the goodness of God the Creator of love and light. My family experiences new music, new employment and new dreams reviving hope. Yes, Heaven is for real. The Kingdom longed for is here and now, and … “what a wonderful world.” And the poet writes: “In spite of everything, yes!” In spite of the fact that “The Trip to Bountiful,” Horton Foote’s wonderful movie, was filmed in 1985, an old friend of mine who had heard me sing, “Softly and Tenderly” on the soundtrack, called me to say that he was involved in a new film, “Heaven is for Real,” and it needed a “Softly and Tenderly” type song sung for the soundtrack album. The friend was a dear who sang on a taped TV series I did back in 1971 (was I alive then?). He is a great singer in his own right who now works for Sony Pictures, and they are releasing the film “Heaven is for Real” coming out this Easter. The God part for me in this new venture was the rekindling of a friendship, and the opportunity to sing this song giving me a chance to tell what I know of Heaven. I hope you make a chance to see the movie and purchase the soundtrack and spread the word that God is in our land, that Heaven isnow, and Easter is almost here. Try practicing resurrection right now!
