Heavenly Father, Before I started following Jesus, I didn’t - TopicsExpress

Heavenly Father, Before I started following Jesus, I didn’t have much interest in the meaning of names. As I started studying the Bible I discovered that it was very significant to learn what names meant because You are telling a prophetic story with them. One of the most expressive combination of names, that has blessed me for many years, happened in the conception and birth of John the Baptist. You hadn’t spoken through a prophet for many years before the advent of Christ but there were still many people who loved You and lived righteously in the midst of the silence. An older cousin of Mary, Elizabeth, was barren in her old age and her name meant “oath of Jehovah.” Her husband, Zechariah, was a priest and his name meant “Jehovah remembered.” In their old age You worked a miracle and sent an angel to announce to him that his wife was going to give him a child. You remembered Your oath to Israel and the world by sending Your prophet through them and his name was to be called John which means “grace.” He would be the messenger You chose to introduce Jesus to the world. He brought us the New Covenant, which would fulfilled the Old Covenant, and establish the dispensation of grace. I am so grateful that You let me live in this interesting period of time. Luke 1:5-8 “In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah; his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron. Both of them were upright in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commandments and regulations blamelessly. But they had no children, because Elizabeth was barren; and they were both well along in years.” Luke 1:13 “The angel said to him: ‘Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John’.”
