Heavenly Father, It seems that the further away a nation gets from you and your ways, more laws are legislated in an attempt to keep people from hurting one another. Then, when they get even further away from you, additional laws are made by those with power to take advantage of the legal system to benefit themselves at the expense of justice. However, when people get close to you, it really doesn’t matter what kind of laws are on the books because you simplify the whole system. Jesus told us to quietly love you and love one another. Wow! All laws can be hung on those two commands. When we are abiding in you, your Spirit bears godly fruit in our lives and there aren’t any laws, in any nation, anywhere in the world that can oppose that kind of yield. You never told us this was going to be easy. No! In fact, you told us it was going to be impossible. The only person who ever did it perfectly was Jesus Christ and he had a big advantage over us because he has your DNA. This whole pursuit of following you and your ways leads us in the opposite direction of what our human nature would have us to do. It’s like swimming upstream. I thank you for giving us the answer. Through the event on Calvary’s hill, we can die to ourselves and turn our lives over to the control of the Holy Spirit. In that way you can live your life through us. All we have to do is get out of the way and let you have the reins. It’s then that awesome things begin to happen in our lives. Your love never fails. Your fruit never fails. You have called us to be salt and light in the world by demonstrating to others your love, acceptance and forgiveness. Thank you for demonstrating that through Christ and a few followers who have and are putting it into practice. Help us to join that mystical group. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” John 15:4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
