Heavy metal and punk rock are absolutely about image just as much as they are about music. If you cant see that, then let me ask you this. Why do metal bands dress in dark clothing and jeans while playing in dissonant tones and singing about the negative aspects of life and existence? Why not get up in khakis and polo shirts and do the same type of music? Why not eschew the negative, post-apocalyptic imagery and just show kittens frolicking in fields while playing the music? Because it all boils down to portraying an image to the listener and viewer. It boils down to creating an identifiable image for those listeners and viewers to identify with and follow...like a seal of authenticity. You are blind or lying to yourself if you dont see that.
