Heb. 5:9 And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation, 2 Thessalonians 1:6-8 For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. I Peter 4:17 For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? While the word believe is often used in Scripture in regard to salvation, this belief is not an issue of intellect, but rather of the heart. ( Without delving into the centuries-old controversy about what happens to people from jungles in Africa on judgment day, I simply refer to Jeremiah 29:13, which states, You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.) As alluded to in a previous post, our beliefs drive our actions, but our actions and motives also drive our beliefs. Jesus stated in John 5:44, How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and you do not seek the glory that is from the one and only God? A person (and/or culture) seeking to satisfy the desires of his sinful Adamic nature participates in activities that violate the laws of God and rationalizes those activities and desires. Repeated violations of Gods law results in a lack of ability to see the truth, and thus the individual becomes spiritually blinded on increasingly deep levels. Disbelief of the gospel is not intellectual disbelief but but rather, at its root source, rebellion against God Himself. This rebellion blinds us from the truth through our own rationalizations that are often gradual. The way back is to simply turn our hearts in obedience to Him, and He has promised that, in response to that turning, He will shine the light of His truth into our lives to illuminate our path and restore His will in our lives.
