Hebrew Words for MOON 1.) MOON ( yah-ray-ahch יָרֵחַ ) – this word always refers to the actual PHYSICAL MOON ( the actual ROCK ) in the sky. It is NEVER used in connection with the APPOINTED TIMES ( moh-ah-deem מּוֹעֲדִים ; moadim ; “feasts” ) or with the monthly ReNewed Moon. Nevertheless, this word does teach us about the Bride of Messiah in a mysterious way. 2.) MOON ( choh-desh חֹדֶשׁ ) – this word always refers to the moon in connection with its MONTHLY cycle of being ReNewed and with the APPOINTED TIMES ( moh-ah-deem מּוֹעֲדִים ; moadim ; “feasts” ). Thus, this word is often translated as: MONTH, because the Hebrew calendar months are determined by the ReNewed Moon. Thus, in a sense, we could say that this word relates to the SPIRITUAL [ aspects ] of the MOON or just: “SPIRITUAL MOON”, as contrasted with the actual “PHYSICAL MOON”. Further support of this is that this word is often used in verses that talk about the ReNewed Moon and the Shabbat שַּׁבָּת. In particular, determining the FIRST MONTH of the Hebrew ( AGRICULTURAL ) YEAR ( also known as “Aviv” or “Nisan” ), is dependent upon Two or Three Witnesses, which include the sighting of the ReNewed Moon. The day for the taking of the Passover lamb ( Month 1, Day 10 ), the slaying of the lamb ( The Passover of YHWH יְהוָה ) ( Month 1, Day 14 ), the Feast of UnLeavened Bread ( ULB ) ( Month 1, Day 15 ), First Fruits, as well as the rest of the MONTHS for the ( AGRICULTURAL ) YEAR, are dependent on counting FROM the FIRST MONTH / ReNewed Moon. The Counting of the sheaves ( usually called: Counting of the Omer ), for counting the 50 days to Shavuot, is also dependent on knowing the correct day for the FIRST day of the FIRST MONTH, based on the ReNewed Moon. This word also teaches us about the Bride of Messiah and the ReNewed Covenant of Messiah in a mysterious way. 3.) MOON ( leh-vah-nah לְּבָנָה ) [ gender: feminine ] – this is a third word used in Hebrew for moon. The root of this word is LABAN ( lah-vahn לָבָן ) [ gender: masculine ], the name of the father of Leah and Rachel, whose name means: WHITE. Thus, this word generally refers to the FULL WHITENESS or FULL LIGHT of the MOON; and is thus understood to mean: FULL MOON. This is in contrast to MOON ( choh-desh חֹדֶשׁ ) which refers to the ReNewed Moon. This word, like the other two words for MOON, also teaches us about the Bride of Messiah in a mysterious way. There are THREE ( 3 ) words in Hebrew used in variuous ways to translate "MOON". There is also actually a fourth word used to translate moon, but it is used only one time in the Hebrew Scriptures ( TeNaKh ) ============ 1.)
