Hebrews 3:12-15 Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God. You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God. For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ. Remember what it says: “Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled.” The design for the church is to work out our salvation together. On the table today we have the “sinful, unbelieving heart”, encouraging one another every day, and holding to our “original conviction firmly to the very end”. An unbelieving heart is most likely already hardened, and is susceptible to all sorts of deception. The thing is that we’re commanded to love one another. If one person is struck with a seed of unbelief, the only way to address that unbelief is through love. 1 Corinthians 12 says many things about being united as the body of Christ and the value of diversity portrayed in serving one another with different gifts. Then the chapter ends with, “And yet I show you a more excellent way”. The more excellent way is love. (1 Cor. 13) Lord God, help our unbelief! Teach us to truly love one another, as You love us.
