Hector Biografy Hector & Hector was born around the Sixties in the area that was the eastern Roman Empire.Stimulated by his restlesness he became very keen on painting, was self-taught, and helped his father to furnish their home with solutions at that time revolutionary for Byzantine culture. From 1974 to 1976 he studied theatre, experimental art and photography. He had his first exhibition devoted to Berber women, became interested in the art of the circus and took some lessons in acrobatics. While still a boy he did not hesitate to study all the art of the School of Paris influenced by distant French descent on his mother’s side. He moved to Bologna and attended courses in sculpture but the following year transfered to Florence where he found a very lively cultural scene that contributed to changing his artistic passions towards less traditional styles bringing him for example to concentrate on Dadaism and artists like Tristan Tzara, Hans Arp and Max Ernst. He worked as an assistant making theatre sets and later as an actor came into contact with the cinema world, the main iconographic source in his artistic career. At the same time he did not interrupt his studies firstly in Maths, Greek and Latin then Philosophy and Letters leading to a degree in Florence in 1986. In the following years, involved in various exhibitions, he was in Paris and decided to stay and live there for some years with trips between the Middle East and Europe. He then gave up studying Dadaism and concentrated on Pop Art, following the international influence of Andy Warhol. He rebelled against capitalism that had an enslaving effect with its frantic desire to possess goods. There was a catharsis where art took up the same method as the western world of marketing and advertising to defend itself against the aggressive narcissism sold by the media as the solution for being happy. From Paris he moved for a short time to Belgium where he continued to look beyond the Atlantic to pick up other stimuli in the evolution of neo-Pop Art. New icons appeared on Hector& Hector’s artistic scene like Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst and Maurizio Cattelan who spoke of artistic work not as an aesthetic component but as an aesthetic concept for communication. To create, astonish, communicate in competition with everyone. His first opportunity for a new change come with his big exhibition at the New York Palace in Budapest in 2007. As an artist he began to think of a manifesto, a public declaration to make art free from serial sameness, that artists should not be recognised by their images but by their signature, complete freedom of research, new languages, raw materials, geometric or alphanumeric shapes, none of which are linked to the mechanical gesture of filling surfaces. Artists are certainly not born to furnish homes but to communicate just like actors, poets, men of letters and philosophers. They should be the main characters in a new kind of emotive engineering. In the wake of this theorem he founded with three other artists the “ Manifesto of Group 50” in Toulon in 2009. In the meantime he had come back to Florence and then settled in Pisa to be near the sea. Besides his passion for art he loves sailing from which developed his Florence exhibition “ East Indian Company” curated by Prof.Giovanni Faccenda and dedicated to the great ocean navigators.Still not happy with the artistic currents at that time prevailing he proposed already at the end of 2009 a new artistic philosophy linked to the concept of Heraclitus based on “everything flows”. The “New World Art” is a totally free avant-garde, a philosophy of acting linked more closely to a Dionysiac vision than to that of Martin Heidegger. A “caput imperare”* towards immortality to hold back the oblivion of time , a physical space for metamorphosis and not only a new concept of contemporary art. Hector & Hector is also interested in literature and founded in 1987 a small publishing house run by the family. At present he lives between Italy, Hungary, France and England.
