Hejjj friends, christmas is near and so I will do an ADVENT CALENDAR this year with 24 doors to be opened. I would like to give some advices how to build up your own DJ and producer career. Don´t get me wrong - I´m not that super huge artist that could talk down to you. I´m also still learning and working hard to become a better artist. But I collected lots of impressions and experiences during the last 15 years which I want to share with you. So let´s start today with : DAY 1) I WANT TO START PRODUCING MUSIC. WHAT DO I NEED? Starting to produce music often means that you´re doing this at home in your living room, because music is your hobby. So you probably don´t have a studio yet but it´s important to build up a little setup for your room. First of all you will need a good soundcard/interface for your PC or laptop. Important: Never use a gaming soundcard for producing! After you have found the perfect place for your desk, choose the monitoring system. Don´t forget that monitoring can also be done by headphones! And of course this place has to be inside a room where you can make some noise without disturbing your neighbors ;-) Finally you will need the right software sequencer. Trust me: It´s not important which software you use, it´s only important which results you can achieve at the end of a day. Most of the software providers include a sample bank with lots of beats and music files to download. Use them to build some first loops, combine these loops to an arrangement and a full track later. Always teach your ears about the perfect sound. Sure - whenever your producing skills reach a higher level, you will need a more professional equipment. But to start producing it´s often enough to learn at an easier level (freeware software) to become a feeling for the whole production process. Don´t spend too much money for hardware which you probably won´t need. Try to finish your first tracks and decide later if you will buy additional hardware such as a mixer, a drum machine or a synth. It always depends on what kind of sound you want to create.
