Helen Keegan, St. David’s academic counselor/registrar returned last week from a two-week trip to China. The purpose of her trip was to promote St. David’s School, along with our partner agency, New Oasis, as well as other area independent schools as options for Chinese students wishing to study abroad. Highlights of the trip included sightseeing at the Great Wall and in Shanghai, visiting several different types of local schools, meeting students and parents that are interested in studying in the US, and catching up with some of St. David’s own alumni who are currently teaching in China. Her overall impression? “The overwhelming sense that I came away with is that the world is much smaller than we think, and as global citizens, we share more in common than we may expect. Whether Chinese or American, we love our children, and are willing to sacrifice greatly for their good. We love our countries, and are proud of the distinctives of our geography, history and culture. As a school, we are enriched by the presence and contributions of our international students; they bring cross-cultural perspectives to our classrooms, as well as give us a window into the world beyond our walls. It was truly a privilege to represent the school in China, and to enhance the value of the global education perspective at St. David’s School.”
