Heliconia Flowers in Grenada. Facebook friends, Grenada has been endowed with some of the most beautiful flowers in the world. From hibiscus, roses, allamandas, bougainvilleas, daffodils, orchids, oleanders, frangipani, and anthurium lilies to heliconias, to name a few. Today, we will take a look at the heliconia flower plant. Heliconias are one of the most colorful and beautiful flowers, the colors of which are an important source of attraction for humming birds. They are also known as lobster-claw, wild plantain or bird-of-paradise. Heliconias are grown as landscape plants. They are cultivated primarily for their colorful flowering head (bracts). These flowers are produced on long, erect or drooping panicles, and consist of brightly colored waxy bracts, with small flowers inside the bracts. The bracts grow opposite to one another on non-woody stems, often forming large clumps with age. Some species have upright facing bracts while others droop down from the main stem. These breathtaking and unusual flowers can be orange, purple, red, yellow, pink, green or combined colors. They grow to heights of 3-30 feet. Seriously, is it possible to cultivate these beautiful and unique flowers as a strategy to strengthen self-reliance and economic growth in Grenada?
