Hell Class Education I visited a friend recently and what happened really saddened me. My friends daughter brought her homework from Bond Math assessment papers in the section dealing with fractions. She seemed confused because shes changed some of her answers. One of her older cousins who is an OND holder had assisted her her and she wasnt sure of the answers. She wanted me to have a look. Below are three of the questions that stuck with me and prompted this story. 1. If 500g of tomatoes cost £3.12, how much will 1kg cost? 2. If 1kg of apple is £2.00 how much will 750g of apple cost? 3. 1 + 1 3 6 Her cousin told her the answer for number 1 is 802. Number 2 was left blank and number 3 was 2/6. I was appalled and totally crushed! An OND holder flunking addition and subtraction of fractions! I was aghast! I summoned her and asked for a pen. Me: how many grams makes one kilogram? Cousin: she drew blank Girl: 1000g Me: Ok! That means 1000/500 multiply by £3.12 = £6.24 Me: 750/1000 multiply by £2.00 = £1.50 Me: since the denominators in question 3 are not the same, multiply numerator and denominator of the first fraction by 2 2 + 1 = 2 + 1 = 3 6 6 6 6 I can forgive not knowing question 3 but 1 and two? Funny enough the girl got questions 1 and 2 right before she convinced her. She did not get three because of the different denominator and they havent really done that. It is just scandalous! I never knew it has become so bad. My brother IBK said the youth of today will find their way? I dont think so. Education made the difference for me - sound education. They will not! This country will become a swathe of sweat shops. Other countries will come to us for unskilled labor. They get into school these days by buying grades and registering in special centers. I have written so much on education Im beginning to repeat myself. We are in a deep mess. Meanwhile children of the upper middle class are getting world class education even if at unreasonable cost in this same country and are doing great in the choicest universities abroad. If and when they come back, they will employ these ones as guards and maids. We are seeing it already. Certification over education with enough emptiness to scare even a cow. Shio! Ptu!
