Hello Accountants My name is Sun Yong and Im currently running to be the student representative to the ASB Undergraduate Education Committee. I feel I am supremely suited to this role with my extensive background in co curricular activities both inside and outside university as well as my commitment to studies. My Candidate Statement has been pasted below. My name is Sun Yong Kim and I am a third year Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Economics student majoring in Finance, Econometrics and Economics. Previously I was a combined Law Student at Macquarie University before transferring to UNSW last year. I am putting my name forward as a candidate to serve on the Undergraduate Education Committee and Faculty Standing Committee because my experience and my background put me in the best place to appropriately vouch for student interests. As the son of Suk Joong Kim, an Associate Professor of Finance at Sydney University who serves as the Disclipline of Finance Postgraduate Research Coordinator, I have been exposed to the many considerations from a staff perspective that go towards designing degree programs at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level. Having that exposure will allow me to temper my student perspective to ensure that a mutually beneficial relationship can be established between staff and undergraduate students with regards to program creation that will lead to beneficial outcomes for both parties. In addition to this, I feel that my extensive public speaking background in Debating as well as my extensive editorial and writing experience working in publications such as Aus Solutions, Inside Enterprise as well as The Indian Economist (TIE) gives me an ability to effectively communicate ideas and thoughts coherently and articulately in a way that can further benefit the aims of the ASB Undergraduate Standing Committee. The ability to think critically and create new ideas must be a valuable skillset for anyone wishing to vouch for student interests in the academic arena. I believe that my experience in public speaking and publications gives me this essential skillset. The student representative also must exhibit an ability to balance the commitments of being on the committee with the everyday struggles of being a university student. I have exhibited an ability throughout high school and university to make such a balanced environment of juggling co curricular activity whilst maintaining stellar academic performance. This ability will help me to effectively serve the interests of students with respect to ASB academics without being hampered by university work. For the above reasons I believe I am the most suitable candidate to serve as the Student Representative on the Undergraduate Education Committee and Faculty Standing Committee.
