Hello All Asian Physical Therapy Staff and Students, I am - TopicsExpress

Hello All Asian Physical Therapy Staff and Students, I am APTSA-HK Representative, Alex. I am very happy to be here to tell you a good news that Hong Kong has launched a phD Fellowship Scheme for Asian Countries’ PTs. The following are the details. The UGC intends to allocate more than 200 RPg places to the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme of the Research Grants Council (RGC) in 2015/16. Please see the RGC poster (1st attachment) and leaflet (2nd attachment). The call for applications for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme 2015/16 will begin (at 12:00 noon, Hong Kong time) on Monday 1 September 2014. PhD students will be recruited to Hong Kong on a worldwide basis. The Scheme will support students selected through an open competition, which will be widely publicised and attract the media’s attention. The Chairman of the Research Committee (RC) urges you to try your best to help PolyU attract outstanding applicants. In order to make the Scheme more attractive to potential applicants, the RC agreed at its 230th meeting on 27 March 2014 that in addition to the monthly stipend of $20,000 and travel allowance of $10,000 per year for a maximum of three years awarded by the RGC, a 3-year tuition fee scholarship should continue to be offered to each PhD Fellowship awardee irrespective of the expected length of study of the student. I would like to inform you that the Student Affairs Office has just agreed that all PhD Fellowship awardees will be guaranteed hall accommodation in the first normal study year. Though we cannot insert this piece of new information into the “PhDFS Leaflet2015-16.pdf” (i.e., the 3rd attachment), we have already updated the PolyU’s promotion website at polyu.edu.hk/ro/hkphd-fellowship/. Please begin looking for applicants who are able to demonstrate outstanding qualities of academic performance, research ability/potential, communication and interpersonal skills, leadership ability and societal responsibility, irrespective of their country of origin and ethnic background. As soon as potential applicants are identified, you are reminded to encourage them to choose PolyU as their only choice or the first priority if they decide to submit an application to two institutions. Applications, subject to the areas of studies, will be reviewed by two Selection Panels with experts in the broad areas, one for science, medicine, engineering and technology and the other for humanities, social sciences and business studies. Applicants for admission to PhD programmes at PolyU via the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme will concurrently be considered for regular places assigned to the University through the award of Postgraduate Studentships. Outstanding candidates will be nominated by the University to compete for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme. Those not selected for nomination for the Fellowship may be given separate consideration for admission as PhD students at PolyU via the award of Postgraduate Studentships, subject to their eligibility of fulfilling the requirements of the Postgraduate Studentships. The RC, at its next meeting tentatively scheduled for 18 September 2014, will review whether the University will continue to support the admission of all candidates put forward to the RGC but not awarded the PhD Fellowship with one-year studentship. The issue on provision of top-up/incentive grant to departments to cover the 4th year of studies of Fellowship awardees with a four-year normal study period will also be re-considered at the next RC meeting. You will be informed of the RC decisions as soon as possible. Please take note of the following key dates: 1 Sept 2014 Call for applications 1 Dec 2014 Deadline for submitting initial applications to the RGC by the applicants for allocation of a reference number 4 Dec 2014 Deadline for submission of full applications to PolyU March/April 2015 Notification of results Some statistical data on the success rate of holders of different degrees in the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme in 2010/11 - 2014/15 are attached for your information (4th attachment). You are reminded that the RGC decided in 2012 to impose an English language requirement on Fellowship applicants other than those wishing to embark on programmes of a non-English medium with effect from the 2013/14 exercise. Potential applicants wishing to apply for enrolment in programmes of an English medium and have not obtained a degree of which the language of instruction was English from a recognised university must be advised to take one of those English language examinations as soon as possible if they have not yet done so. Please refer to our e-Prospectus at polyu.edu.hk/ro/e-prospectus/entrance_requirements.html for details of the English language requirements. The Scheme provides another channel for PolyU academics to secure additional RPg student places. Please therefore make good use of this opportunity. We will invite the Chinese Mainland Affairs Office and International Affairs Office to help promote the Scheme. Let us join hands in attracting outstanding PhD applicants to come to PolyU! Copies of the PolyU promotion leaflet (3rd attachment) mentioned above have been sent to Departments/Faculties to help promote the Scheme. If you wish to obtain more copies, you may ask me directly through Facebook, AlEx Wong. Thank you!!!
