Hello, All. This is a plea for help. Molly and I are currently in Canton, IL, desperately trying to fix up Arnold’s and Yancy’s house for sale (the details of this will be in a different post). It needs a lot of work such as the roof replaced, the exterior heavily scrubbed, all the landscaping fixed, the breaker box replaced, the heating and A/C fixed/replaced, windows repaired/replaced, etc. I am handling all of that just fine. The interior of the house and garage are in major disrepair and very cluttered. Molly and I have been successful in clearing and cleaning most of the upstairs. But we are running out of time. We have both had to take 3 weeks off work to try to get this taken care of between hospital visits but we are running out of time and I have a foot injury that is really slowing me down. We need help getting the rest of this done by the end of this week. • We need 4 to 6 strong people to help move furniture on Thursday, September 18. • We need 1 or 2 trucks on Thursday, September 18, that can be used to haul furniture to a local consignment store. A 4WD truck may be able to back up to the basement door making the job a little easier but we will take what we can get. • The consignment store closes at 5pm so we will need to be loaded up and on the road by 4pm. • We need 4 to 6 able persons on Wednesday, September 17, to help carry thousands of books, old food and other junk out of the basement up to the dumpster. There are also numerous tools that need to be moved to the garage and hundreds of clothing items that need to be packed in a vehicle and transported to the consignment store. • We need 2 or 3 able persons any day this week to help with landscaping chores (ripping out weeds, cleaning the shed, general cleanup). There should not be much heavy work but you will need to be prepared to get dirty. • We need 1 or 2 people to clean all the curtains in the house. Some just need a good vacuuming and some will actually go in the washing machine and will need to be dried and hung back up. • We need 1 or 2 people to repair the drop ceiling in the basement. The cats have had access to the ceiling and have bent up all the support-work. If you know how to fix that, please help us. • We need 1 or 2 people to clean the basement when this is all done. The windows will need cleaned, the carpet shampooed (there is a Bissell shampooer here somewhere), the ceiling and walls dusted and the floor cleaned with bleach. This should happen after Thursday night, so, either Friday or Saturday, September 19th or 20th. Very little of this work is for the faint-of-heart. There are stairs to be climbed a long ramp to walk up to the dumpster, heavy furniture to be moved, the landscaping is hill-prone and ladders will need to be climbed for some work. We would love all the help we can get but due to the clutter and terrain we simply need agile, energetic, self-motivated helpers. As you can tell, we have much to do in a very short period so we must ask that children who are unable to help not be present. Please let us know very soon if you are able to help with any of the above. We are so overwhelmed it’s hard to even find a place to start. In addition, my foot injury is getting worse with all the work I’ve done and have to pass some of this off to others who are able. Please help us if you’ve got some time this week. Mitch & Molly Ogden
