Hello All, We wanted to put out some of our Adoption and Foster - TopicsExpress

Hello All, We wanted to put out some of our Adoption and Foster Faqs: 1) We are all volunteers. It is very hard to get to every phone call, and emails right away. Thank you for your patience and sometimes the reminders if we do indeed accidently miss something. 2) We are not always fast. Your adoption depends on if we have a Dane that is a fit for your home, you have passed the application and home visit. It is not a first comes first serve basis. We have become much like Matchmakers for the Danes and are always looking for their perfect home above all else. 3) If your application does not contain information pertaining to every dog you list, every dog your vet lists you having, we will reserve the right to deny based on that fact. 4) We do not adopt out to an home with unaltered dogs of any size UNLESS there is a medical reason in which your dog cannot be altered. Possible exceptions may only be made on a case by case basis otherwise, but in all honesty 99% of the time it is a no. 5) We do not send our Danes on transports of any kind. We only adopt out to New England States. And foster homes are required to by nearby one of the rescue approved vets. We will bring the Danes to their foster and adoptive homes. This is a rescue policy that we never veer from as we feel it is best for the Danes for us to help with all introductions of their new situations. 6) We do not honor the use of shots from Co-op type companies. We require your vetting of this nature to be performed by your veterinarian. There is too much room for the shots from these places to have gone bad, gotten too hot, gotten too cold, or come from a bad lot. 7) We are always in need of great foster homes, please do not agree to foster a dog and call us less than a week in and say it is not working out and you want them out. The meaning of a foster home is to help with the transition of the adjustment period and we rely on fosters to help these Danes in need get to where they need to be for their forever homes. We clearly state in the contract that if it isnt life threatening, you are required to hold onto the dog until we can find a more suitable arrangements, and we ask that if necessary that you foster our dogs for at least a minimum of 30 days before throwing in the towel. 8) Most of these Danes (not all) are coming from a shelter environment or bad situations and even sometimes coming from a good situation, the transition to a new situation can prove to be very stressful on almost every Dane. You may be ready and know this is the perfect match for you, however the Dane does not know this and they are extremely confused. They may act out, not eat or drink, have accidents in the house, and stressing out in multiple ways. They do not know what is happening to them, who you are, why they are there, or are they staying?? This is a huge change for these dogs. 9) When you get your foster or adoptive Dane, yes show them love and let them know they are safe, but it is also the time when you teach them your house rules, give them guidance and structure. We all feel bad for them, but that life is in the past and your are their future and making it positive for them. Give them boundaries, routines, consistency, lots of patience and positive reinforcement, this will all help with make them settling in less stressful on them. 10) Lastly, when you have gone through the process and you finally get that perfect family member, remember we go through a very strict process for the best possible home for them and we take our time and we ask you in return to do the same, sometimes the first 2 weeks to 2 months is the hardest and at times you may feel that it will never get better or easier. We promise you it does, we have all been through it many many times. These Danes need you in many different ways. We work very hard to give them a fighting chance at life for the ones that are abused, neglected and lived a life of trauma, and a promise to the families that are forced to give up their loved ones for life throwing them that unexpected curve ball that their babies are going to be safe and ok in their new homes. We make promises to these Danes in need that they will always be safe, loved, cared for and no harm will ever come their way, we ask you to work with us in making that happen for them. Give them the time needed to adjust to their new environments, and be patient with us as we work as fast as we can but will take as much time as we need to find that perfect forever home Thank you for the continued support of us and these precious souls.
