Hello Amnesty Activists! Amnesty Macquarie has been planning a Refugee Conference event to be held on Sunday 12 October at Macquarie University! It will be a great day and a great opportunity to learn more about the issues and engage with people from a diverse range of experiences, perspectives and expertise - this includes the voices of asylum seekers and refugees. The day has a packed program including speakers such as former Nauru social worker Mark Isaacs, Labor Senator Sam Dastyari, Greens Lee Rhiannon, panel discussion, entertainment, stalls showcasing different organisations which support refugees, as well as a multicultural lunch and refreshments (incluing halal, vegetarian and non vegetarian options). You will also have the opportunity to interact with and see for yourself some of the conditions of refugee camps. Organisations which will be participating in the event include Amnesty International Australia, Community Migrant Resources Centre, Refugee Advice and Casework Service (RACS), NSW Service for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors STARTTS, Refugee Art Project, Treehouse Theatre, Asylum Seeker Centre, Macquarie University Students for Community Legal Engagement (MUSCLE), LEAP Macquarie Mentoring and many more. The event page is here https://facebook/events/280093398860036/ Tickets are a donation to RACS (very important as they have recently absorbed huge funding cuts!) https://eventbrite.au/e/freedom-from-fear-tickets-12968716781 Please share share and share!! This will be a great place both for people who dont know much about the issues to get informed, and also for those who are already interested to find out more about how to get involved in this area and network! Thank you! :)
