Hello Australia & Aotearoa / New zealand, thank you for inviting me to join your amazing page... As a sailor, anthropologist, marine artist, historian invite you to my special page whilst on Face Book... Here is an eye opener for you to view and would like your feed back if applicable Ross Bodle 9 November 12:11 It seems every time a skull or human remains has been found its usually hushed up, if pre- Maori done away with to be lost forever... no DNA, or scientific evidence is taken... i.e. A Bull Dozer driver friend of mine who took Sylvia and I to the latest site here in the Bay of Islands as mentioned and shown on videos of our special Face Book page Before Maori NZs First Inhabitants had this to say. I was contracted by D.O.C to level all the ancient pre-Maori sites on the western side of Northland and afterwards started another to be cleared around the township of Russell. This site had to be levelled to make way for a new camping ground, there was a mound to be removed and contents placed in a hollow areas thus levelling, whilst the first layer of soil was being removed my dozer blade uncovered what looked to be white round stones but upon closer inspection discovered to be tops of skulls about 5 or 6 of them? I used my shovel to dig around one of these and found it to be full bodied remains sitting in a fetus type position wrapped up in what appeared to be wide broad leaves. I called the local Russell Police, explained my findings & was told to hold any more digs until he or they got there. It turns out a policeman and an elder of the local Maori Iwi arrived, the latter took a look and said these remains were not Maori. The Police officer told me to bury them wherever, but this I couldnt do it as its our history (Heritage).I then called the curator of the Auckland Museum, she didnt want to know about pre-Maori stuff as it would cost too much time, effort and extra paper work. In short my friend buried at least 60 remains under tons of earth near the Russell Township... Sad but true......
