Hello, Bus Junkies! Were checking in from Springfield, IL. We had the greatest time cruising along Route 66 today! We didnt have to hit a major interstate until the very last 20 miles when we had to take a detour because of a washed out bridge (the map here is not the the route that we took today, just an approximation)! The old Route 66 saunters along through neighborhoods, and small towns, and many businesses acknowledge their location with a classic Route 66 graphic, a period correct neon sign, or directly with their name: Route 66 Diner, Route 66 gas, Route 66 Tires, etc. The Route is well marked, and though it weaves and bobs around modernity quite a bit, we only made a handful of wrong turns. It felt appropriate to take a relative low-speed tour along the iconic Mother Road in a 66 bus! Our friend Bob, who drove up to Chicago from Springfield - 3 plus hours - followed along in his sweet panel. He invited us to say at his place, and thats where we are now. He rolled out the red carpet for us, and were right at home amongst his collection of aircooled VWs and the associated spare parts that hes acquired over the years. We all know how that goes... Tomorrow well be staying just a bit north of Joplin at our friends B&B, and well be meeting a crew of Bus Junkies there for some cheer and good times. This stop will put us just between the first and second cities mentioned in the song: Now you go through Saint Looey Joplin, Missouri, And Oklahoma City is mighty pretty. We havent posted a schedule yet, because we really dont have one. Were going where the wind blows, yet with the understanding that we have to be in Las Vegas on the 18th for Greg to Run the Drag Races at Bugorama. Eventually, well have to put the hammer down! If anyone would like to meet for a quick bee/ snack somewhere along the route. Send us a PM! Long day, time for sleep. Jeremy and Greg out.
