Hello Everyone.Today I spoke with the S.V. City Attorney and...REDFLEX! Guess who was courteous, informative, and helpful. Thats right, it was Redflex! Twice in two phone calls. Wasnt expecting that. They have a department just for this. So, I learned that they have received letters from City Hall terminating the contract. They are now in the process of assembling crews to come here to begin disassembly of the cameras. Redflex cannot give me a date of completion but thought it would certainly be in Dec. Work should begin any day now. If you see anything happening on the cams please let us know. We all want our own videos, dont we? Ok, theres more. Theres this thing called MUTCD. Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. It is the Federal Law with Az supplement updated in 2012. Very recent. Paragraphs 2B.5504.c and 4D.01(03) dictate that all signs and cameras Must be covered or taken down if not in use. We remember burlap material on the signs and cams before they were turned on. City Attorney and camera fan Nathan Williams, told me he thinks the cameras are not traffic control devices,so the law doesnt apply. Hes Wrong. The cams are wired directly into the redlights and are an integral part of the system,by definition. Redflex does not argue this. The Citys stated purpose for having the cams was, Behavior Modification. What isnt Control about that? Williams is in denial. Furthermore, 2B.5504.c declares the warning signs about Photo Enforcement 600 Ahead must be covered or removed. Clearly, there is NO photo enforcement ahead anymore, so those signs are confusing and wrong and potentially dangerous. Williams doesnt want to do anything about it. He stated to me that people around here hate government and if you dont break the law, you wont have any trouble. He doesnt mind having his picture taken because he doesnt break the law. I advised him that was the weakest and laziest argument of those few camera supporters. Besides, the issue is settled. He agreed and confirmed that the landslide vote results was the reason for ending enforcement the day after the election. Williams told me the cameras were tracking my truck around town. His attempt at humor. I reminded him that I am the easiest man in Cochise County to find. But our chat led me to believe that some at City Hall, especially him, think we are a bunch of gun toting, government hating paranoids. I think the Mayor and Council Members are more agreeable that these things need to disappear, pronto. Well, anyway, my talks with Redflex were much more productive.
