Hello Everyone, Yesterday at 3pm I received a call from the - TopicsExpress

Hello Everyone, Yesterday at 3pm I received a call from the building manager at ‘The Otani Building’ who subsequently brought down a letter stating that we are to be vacated from the premises by noon on Wednesday the 7th of May due to non-payment of rent. We have not paid April’s rent which was due on April 10th and rent for May was due on the 10th of May and we had assumed it might be OK to pay two months rent totalling $15,000 on that date and although we have paid late and in similar fashion previously this has proven to be insufficient to satisfy the owner this time. There is also an option to pay $14,000 on Wednesday the 7th and stay till May 31st but we are leaning toward running out last shift on Tuesday evening. This development is very sudden for us so we can’t say with absolute certainty but it’s pretty clear that that may be the best course of action. In either case it has been made clear to us that the building ownership no longer wants a restaurant in that space. So right now I am still in a state of shock. We have been working on some plans to possibly relocate for some time but due to the sudden and dramatic nature of this news we have moved quickly to inform our staff so that they have a better chance at finding other employment quickly. The dust is still settling and we are considering our options. Now, I do believe that there may be a way to negotiate to stay and I love that space and it’s atmosphere and architecture but it has its own inherent problems too. As the dust begins to settle we are gearing up to kick up some more till time runs out; not in spite or anger but with an overflowing abundance of joy. There is no party like the last party and the ownership of the building has made it very clear to us that this is it, this is the end here and so it shall be. We ride onto this battlefield for the final battle, a battle we cannot win but we fight now for the sheer glory of the fight; we will rejoice and enjoy to the fullest each other’s friendship and the wonderful memories we made here on this tough ground. Ironically, at this very juncture, we are better than we’ve ever been. We could be better, always better but I say with confidence that this crew has come together; we are ready to step into any facility and rock Otani like bosses but that is a conversation for later. To our detractors, I will have a statement just for you as well. On Tuesday we will make a decision regarding staying till the 31st but again as we are still smarting for this blow we’ll let things pan out a bit before we speculate further. Let me finish for now with this: Business can be very tough, there are business all around you fighting against odds you cannot imagine or simply do not know and this is just daily life for all of us everywhere on this planet. We can only do our best and part of that is to find the best in each other. Sincerely, Rick Honda(a.k.a, The Rickster!) Your Friendly Neighborhood Rick Honda President, Otani
