Hello FB friends. I want to give you all an update on Blakes bone marrow stem cell transplant. Today is day +18 (meaning he is 18 days post transplant). Overall Blake is doing well, his ANC count is very good, his red + white cells are coming back and his platlets, they are always the last to come back, and they have in fact come back. PTL! Everyday his cells will multiply and re-build his bone marrow. As you know it is our hope that this procedure will rid Blake of his brain cancer. This morning we had a visit from Dr. Finley - one of the many oncologists overseeing his treatment here at Nationwide Childrens Hospital - he informed us that after consulting with Blakes team at The Arthur G. James Cancer Institute at OSU a determination was made that Blake will undergo 10 special radiation treatments in the next few weeks. As well as an oral mediation that they believe he will benefit from. Icing on the cake we were told :) As of today his side effects have decreased. While he remains at Childrens he is slowly regaining his appetite (a fondness for cherry jello thus far) and we are pleased with his slow but steady progress. When he goes home he will have strict guidelines to protect his recovering immune system. I invite you to join us at one of two fundraisers planned for this weekend. All you can eat pizza and salad at a cost of $10.00 per person. A silent auction and 50/50 raffle are planned this Saturday in Grove City from 3-6 pm at Sunny Street Cafe and on Sunday at Kingys Pizza from 12-3.
