Hello Facebook friends! You receive my messages and statuses on an almost daily basis but Im sure many of you dont know what my daytime job is. Its not actually a job but a frontline ministry and outreach in downtown Peterborough that I thoroughy enjoy. Friends Peterborough is a humanitarian organization offering help, hope and a hand-up to the clients who drop in to our storefront location on a daily basis. Every day we have clients who come in with a variety of situations they need help with. One of the most pressing needs is affordable housing. So many people in our city cant even afford a room let alone a nice apartment. Some of our clients live on the street and depend on food banks and local drop-in centres for their daily bread. I listen to the stories of our clients...offering a listening ear and a compassionate heart. Over the past 2 1/2 years we have helped hundreds of individuals and have built strong friendships with many of them. FRIENDS Peterborough was launched by Selwyn Outreach Centre in October 2011. SOC continues to cover the rent, phone/internet costs & office supplies, etc. but I have been raising my own support since January 2013. What that means is that Im not paid a salary but I must depend on the free-will gifts and donations of interested friends, businesses and organizations. All donations to FRIENDS Peterborough from Canadian donors are tax-deductible and receipts are issued at year end by Selwyn Outreach Centre.
