Hello Family and Friends, hope all is well. Want to take advantage of a teachable moment. On yesterday April 1, The Independent News Paper produced their annual April Fools Article, and this year it featured me.(not the first time) The title of the article is Mouton Statue being removed from Old City Hall. Please go on line at theind to read and more importantly view the comments following the article. Everything from my DNA to my mental status is questioned. I will also copy and paste an email received at the Council Office. If I am unable to do so I will do a additional post. I deal with this everyday, lets have a conversation about race and hidden racism. Remember the article was a joke the comments were REAL!!!!!! Patin, Council District 8 , William Theriot, Council District 9 Subject: Removal of Mouton Statue Gentlemen: I am personally appalled at the decision to remove the statue of Mouton, however, from a business viewpoint I am even more shocked at the possibility of renaming Lee Ave. and Johnston St. Im sure that you are aware of the cost to business owners of changing an address, and in the internet age the near impossibility of getting everything corrected in online directories, etc. Please use some fiscal and common sense before proceeding with such actions. I have not seen the entire list of actions proposed for this reconcilation, but I would assume changing the name of Martin Luther King Drive and the Martin Luther King Center would be included, so as not to offend another group of residents.
