Hello Fellow Dems. We were blessed with the choice between some awesome Dem candidates for City Council District 8. Now it’s down to Ed Scruggs (and us) to fight back against the Tea Party Machine. We need all hands on deck to rally and support Ed Scruggs in his runoff against Ellen Troxclair. The Tea Party is determined to get one of their own on the Austin City Council. Ellen works for Jason Isaacs (R/Tea Party) a “crank” (as The Austin Chronicle calls him) state legislator from Dripping Springs. Also, besides unbridled development, they want to stop Austin from promoting alternative fuels, dismantle the Heritage Tree Ordinance, undermine the Save Our Springs Ordinance, lift the bag ban (what!?), etc. And check this out – Karl Rove’s wife is throwing Ellen a fundraiser!! We have to fight to keep our piece of the pie blue!!! Here’s what we can do, and please let me know how you are willing to participate: •VOTE! The election is December 16 and early voting will be Dec 1 through Dec 12. Statistics show that only half of the folks who voted in the primary will return to vote – we need everyone to go back. •YARD SIGN! Put a campaign sign in your yard, please, and ask your neighbors to place a sign. We can deliver. •DONATE! The clock starts over and you can give another $350 (maximum) per person to Ed’s campaign. Ellen is raising crazy money from developers and the Tea Party. Anything helps. You can donate online at Ed’s website at edscruggsfordistrict8.org/donate ◦Beyond the $350 max to Ed’s campaign you can also donate to the Better Austin Tomorrow Political Action Committee (BATPAC). They will help with signs, ads, etc. There is no cap on that. To donate online: betteraustintoday.org/page/Donate+using+PayPal •SPREAD THE WORD! Email this information to all your contacts, talk with all your neighbors. This is a very busy time of year but we need commitments that people will get to the polls. And send a note to all your friends outside of District 8 that they too can keep a Tea Partier off the Council by donating to Ed’s campaign and/or BATPAC. This will be an extremely close race. •VOLUNTEER! If you want to make calls, block walk, crunch data, let me know and I will connect you to Ed’s Campaign Manager, Jonathan Panzer. We need to hit the ground running – all help is appreciated. •PROTECT our sensitive environment in District 8, we are the guardians of the aquifer and our beloved Barton Springs. Ed will help us do that. Let’s show those R’s that they can’t have Austin. They will be going into attack mode against Ed. Let’s get organized and fight back, and soothe ourselves with at least one Blue Win.
