Hello Friends and Family: I want to thank those of you who - TopicsExpress

Hello Friends and Family: I want to thank those of you who reached out earlier in the year when Tami and I unceremoniously announced that we were slated to become grandparents this year; albeit not under the circumstances that we had always dreamed of. I may not have personally thanked each of you who wrote or called- based on a myriad of items that I was juggling at once that were mentally distracting me- however, rest assured that the comforting words of all of you were both read (or heard) and taken to heart. Thank you. I’ve often said, and I believe that I pointed this out within our original “announcement” that “we plan; and God laughs.” I’ve recently updated that tag line to read: He also laughs at us (or more appropriately WITH us) a lot. I reckon, in a way, that the Lynch Family has got to be God’s favorite reality show….and I’m fine with that. I naturally would not like to be cut from the cast anytime soon though. And, unlike Mike Brady, I refuse to perm my hair for ratings or wear bell-bottoms. We would welcome an Alice around our house, in a heartbeat though, God…..just sayin’. Update on Mollie: We went to Pensacola this past weekend to bring her home with us. We now have all 8 Lynch Kids under one roof again (car roof for now; real roof tonight). It remains a blessing and a challenge to effectively raise and care for the crew of kids that we’re so thankful to have entrusted to us. In short, it ain’t easy; but it’s often fun. We continue to laugh a lot. Laughter remains the glue that has held us together over so many wonderful years. Mollie is doing well and intent on keeping the baby (not adopting. Other options were not on the table). We pray for fortitude, strength, wisdom and maturity as she comes closer to dealing with the realities that will soon stare her in the face (while crying and pooping on her). We pray that the interests of the baby are foremost in her mind with whatever she does, for now, and as long as they both shall live. As things currently stand, she’s still unprepared: a baby having a baby, in many regards. People change though, as circumstances change. To add to our ever-growing plot line, Mollie has not had an uncomplicated pregnancy. She has dealt with placenta previa during the past trimester; however, both she and the kiddo seem to be fine, thank God. We are looking at a due date in mid October. Yep, it’s right around the corner. And yes, the Vegas odds-makers were not upset to learn that she’s expecting a girl. Go figure!! As Mollie comes home, I’m reflecting more and more on the story of the Prodigal Son. Sure, there’s joy associated with a homecoming. That’s for sure. The father in the Prodigal Son story rejoiced because his son was figuratively dead and now he was alive again. Time will tell if there has been a spiritual awakening or if this is just another trip home rather than a true homecoming and new beginning for us. We’ll see. All that we know for sure is: she asked to come home now, so we rushed to get her. That’s our job as parents; to simply come when called, whether it’s for a kid falling off a bike; or a matter such as the one with which we are dealing with now: where a penis somehow fell inside of our child and she magically got pregnant. I much prefer falling bikes. The other thing that hit me about the Prodigal Son story is the following: it never really focused on what happened AFTER the big welcome home party. The son was repentant because his heart had changed; forced to change through a string of circumstances that rendered him helpless. He totally surrendered. What did the son do differently after the party was over? What did the father do differently after the party was over as well? Maybe God is providing the ending for the Prodigal Son story via His favorite reality show? If that’s the case, we’ll let you know how it ends. For now, thanks for the continued prayers. We remain slightly adrift in the sea of confusion while paradoxically remaining anchored via faith and knowing that we can win by surrendering to His will. Just show us the way God; we’re here. We’re anxious to see what happens after the party is over.
