Hello Friends of the Hive Gallery, There is an upcoming (quickly) charity art exhibition and auction we are supporting that I think you would enjoy. It’s ARTWORKS FOR THE CURE, an eclectic and offbeat show that will be at the Barker Hangar at the Santa Monica Airport from Friday, October 11th to Sunday, October 13th. Over 150 contemporary artists are represented…painters, sculptors, photographers and mixed media artists from all over the globe. A number of the artists from MOCA’s ART IN THE STREETS show will be represented, including Shepard Fairey, Mister Cartoon, RISK, Estevan Oriol and Todd James. There’s also an exhibit of the graffiti that was on both sides of the Berlin Wall and, maybe best of all, you will have a chance to try your hand at tagging street art. The benefitting charity, the T.J. Martell Foundation, originated in the music industry, and there is a definite music vibe in some of the work including a superb collection of rock photography and the visual art of many music artists including Dave Matthews, John Mellencamp, Edward O’Brien (Radiohead), Brandon Boyd (Incubus), both John and Julian Lennon and Yoko Ono, Leonard Cohen, Grace Slick and Janis Joplin. There will be at least 50 artists, present on opening night, Friday, October 11th, for the VIP MEET THE ARTISTS RECEPTION. LA CONFIDENTIAL is the Media sponsor. You can get the first look at the art, plus there will be a Red Carpet, live music, wine, beer and hors d’ oeuvres by the owners of Crustacean and Tiato Restaurants. We are able to offer our friends a $25 discount on the $75 Friday ticket if you buy in advance by visiting: 2013artworks.org. and using the promo code AGY. Friday tickets are good for free re-admission Sunday. Saturday night is a dinner for the Foundation’s Honorees and guests and Sunday afternoon the show continues with art, music, wine, beer, gourmet food trucks and $25 tickets. Tickets for both are available at: 2013artworks.org. The T.J. Martell Foundation, 501(c)3 with a 3-star Charity Navigator rating, has raised over $250 million for early stage, “angel” research into cancer and leukemia at twelve leading research hospitals across the country. Over $27 million has been granted to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for its pediatric cancer research. So, if you’re free that weekend, you’ll enjoy the show…and it’s for a good cause. See you there! The Hive
