Hello Good members of GBS, I am happy to inform u that the Societys professional training programme in CLINICAL AND RESEARCH BIOCHEMISTRY, has been developed. We shall submit it to our resource persons and consultants for a review. The training is designed for GBS members in good standing only, it covers the ff areas: 1. Laboratory Competencies: 1.1. Introduction to clinical biochemistry 1.2.Analytical techniques and instrumentation 1.3 Evaluation of analytical method 2.0. Laboratory management competencies. Objective is to develop skills to take independent responsibility for the direction and management of the service. 3.0. Clinical governance and audit competencies. Objectives: knowlegde of the lines of accountability, quality improvement programmes, clinical audit, evidence-based practice, clinical standards & guidlines, managing risk and quality assurance programmes. 4.0. Clinical Biochemistry of Diseases. The objective is to relate the understanding of normal human biochemistry and physiology to clinical biochemistry of screening, diagnosis and monitoring of disease. 5.0. Competencies in the Interpretation of laboratory data. Objective: ability to advise on the interpretation of laboratory results in diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of patients: appropriate selection of tests, interpretation of their results, initiation of further investigation based on these results, contribution to the construction, organization and interpretation of clinical research projects 6.0. Competencies in Research and Development. Objective: experience in research and development to develop skills in independent and team-driven problem solving, critical assessment of publised work for gaining analytical expertise. Duration for the training is one year.
