Hello Group. Unfortunately this snake was stumbled upon today at a small gathering for a B-Day at an apartment complex just north of Houston, TX. I have read some of the threads here and I realize that this is not the desired end to these stories and I apologize. These apartments are basically surrounded by wooded country club/golf course land. There has been issues in the past of the overhanging brush and stacks of discarded limbs and trees simply lining the fence line in stead of being disposed of properly by the grounds and maintenance crews. This particular unit belongs to a friend and is on the far back end of the property. While cleaning up the patio area this snake was basically swept out of a pile of leaves that was lining the INSIDE portion of the patio. There is a small gap between the fence and that the snake may have squeezed through. The sliding glass door was open and there was a curious little Beagle Pup and a 10 month old toddler literally feet away at the threshold of the door among other children playing in the unit. Basically, when the snake was discovered it felt cornered enough by the fencing and other objects that it became defensive and began to snap and coil. First at the dog and then towards the broom. The dog was snatched up and the sliding door was briskly shut. There was no IMMEDIATE remedy to the situation and nobody in attendance could I.D. the type or threat other than the fact that it seemed VERY VERY DANGEROUS in that situation...... It looks to be more than 2 FT in length..... What is it? Was the decision a good one?
