Hello, I just joined this group/page/forum and need some information. I have written a book about (insert latest craze or movie plot cloning here) and need to get it into the hands of a publisher. Who would I contact? Any help would be appreciated. How many times have we seen this kind of post? A few too many for me. How about we back the truck up and let me REALLY help them start their writing career. Apparently, when I respond with questions about who they had design their cover or professionally edit their work, they get pissy....but they want to send me a copy to review. By review, they mean I should gush out loving praise and fall all over myself with giddy approval, as I slog through jumbled plots, bad character development and cliche writing prose. Now, they will only send me a copy if I keep it to myself and promise not to steal any of their ideas. Dont worry...I think your book is safe.. I used to try and walk through some steps to consider BEFORE they start launching letters and sending out ARCs to unsuspecting victims...I mean agents/reviewers/family members that stopped returning their calls. But that discussion falls on deaf ears. See, its such a good book that they need to get it in the hands of a publisher that will just love it and they want the groups to provide them with the name of someone to contact because they deserve to be helped, otherwise the world will miss out on the greatest novel written since Gone with the wind (Nevermind that their synopsis says its 50 Shades of Grey meets Footloose). Hey, pal, they spent days or weeks writing the book and have put enough time into it already. They are ready to start making that Stephen King money. It is to laugh...and a little depressing. I get to watch their dreams get crushed. Not with relish or glee, but disappointment, because they refuse to listen to a little advice. Those Help me find a publisher posts are so laughable now that I dont even bother helping them anymore. Ill catch them on the long, slow, slide into self-realization and when they see the reality that they have a TON of work/rework left to do before they should even consider publishing it, even if they do it themselves, much less chasing a publisher with their diatribe. Thats about the time they are ready to listen. Like the rest of us.
