Hello, I ordered a package from the US to Haifa with DHL. - TopicsExpress

Hello, I ordered a package from the US to Haifa with DHL. However, it got stuck at the customs because Israeli customs decided to inspect the package and DHL required my ID to clear it. However, I was not contacted (in part because I dont have a phone now, and in part because its Israel) and when I called DHL they said I have to pay an additional handling fee and storage fee. The question: Can I somehow legally not pay it, or make the sender pay it, after all I am not responsible for the customs whims and DHLs failure to inform me along with the fact that Ive paid for delivery as per the contract I made with the seller and I am only responsible for the import tax? Additional info: Its a cellphone, price including delivery ~300 USD. I have to pay around 400 NIS on top of what I paid for delivery. Only around 100 of it is import tax or duty. Seller: Amazon.
