Hello Kimberley. I would just like to say that you are doing a fantastic job in centralising all of the ideas that have been voiced thus far. Thank you. A small bit about me so that you know why I have joined Facebook (I always promised I would do all of my socialising in the pub!). I am a local businessman and resident of Milton and have been since about 1977. After living here for a short while, like everyone else, I fell in love with the area. I like city life but I also value Milton because it has an eco-system all of its own. Within moments I can be away from the grey concrete landscape and be happily whiling my time away among the many interesting places that Milton has to offer. St James is one of my favourite places on planet Earth. It would be a tragedy to lose St James and the University to developers. Andrew Strange is a typical example of someone who comes to the city with no idea of its rich history. A man with such tunnel vision that he believes in profit before quality of life. I am sure he was happy once he arrived home in his leafy Bristol suburb on Wednesday night, leaving behind a battered local community in his wake. The most important thing for us now is to get organised. We have to get among the people of Milton and beyond and let them know the scale of the damage that is being proposed. I can remember when the developers came for the Meon playing fields saying that that would be all they would take. Next we have seen the closure of shops and pubs, the carving up of parts of St James. Will it end there or will we be faced with the spectre of building on the cricket pitch, Milton Common, Moorings Way first school, Milton Park? It may not happen in my lifetime but it will happen unless we tackle the proposals for house building at St James and the University. On Saturday I will be joining a hardy band of local people with the sole intention of increasing public awareness. We need to ensure that anyone who cares is not put off by the political blame game. I couldnt care less who did / said what ten years ago. What matters is today, tomorrow and beyond. Finally I have to take my hat off to the wonderful Pauline Holmes and her excellent presentation regarding the Dark Bellied Brent Geese. These are the little fellows that stopped the Farlington Pompey Stadium (I am a fan by the way!) so they have the potential to be NHS Property Services Limiteds worst nightmare. Pauline said that the University site is of significant importance to the geese and that they depend on its resources to build the energy to migrate and reproduce. And it isnt just the University building programme that would effect their well-being it is also the nature and scale of nearby developments (such as St James). All those extra people, cars, dogs would make it very hard for the geese to continue successfully. Its a bit corny but I feel that NHS Property Services Limited are about to lose their Golden Goose! Plenty of pictures please of the geese in the local area.
