Hello McDermotts everywhere, I am writing to bring light to an upcoming event Spring, 2016. This marks the 100th anniversary of The Easter Rising and the Irish Proclamation of Independence signed by one of seven signators, our very own, Sean Macdiarmada who was summarily shot to death with his six comrades in arms in Dublins Cilmainon Goel(jail) shortly after Easter Sunday, 1916. This event led to Irelands Independence for twenty six of the 32 counties, the other six, Ulster, becoming a colony of England much to the dismay of many! I am hoping our Clan Macdermot members from both of the main groups would petition our Clan Taoiseach Rory Macdermot, Prince of Coolavin to initiate a pilgrimage calling all McDermotts everywhere for a Clan Gathering for Easter, 2016. We need to commit to this way in advance because we wouldnt want to see a repeat of 2013 where Rory, Siobhan and so many others worked very hard to put together a wonderful program only to have a very tepid response from McDermotts worldwide! We would need a good size group(100-200 would be fantastic)to come forward and commit to doing the planning which is NOT an easy task. I guess we would have to see how many are interested in a Clan Gathering. My wife, Chris, and I can tell you from our experience at two Gatherings in Ireland and one in New York that they are great crac indeed!!! I am volunteering myself today to help plan and coordinate and I hope many will volunteer as well because this is a massive undertaking that can and will be hard work, great fun and give you an undying love off our beautiful homeland. I hope there is an energetic response by a large force of McDermotts who are abundantly determined to make this work for us all! This is only an initial inquiry to see what interest there is in doing a Gathering to top all others, so please think about it and lets get the juices flowing to make Easter, 2016 the best of the wonderful times we have had in the past, WHAT DO YOU SAY, MCDERMOTTS WORLDWIDE?
